  1. VSOCKS Light README

  4. VSOCKS Light is a simple, basic SOCKS firewall proxy server. Install it
  5. on a Windows 95/98/NT PC with a modem connection to the Internet, and a connection
  6. to your LAN and you can use the Internet from anywhere on your LAN (you need
  7. the TCP/IP protocol on your network).

  9. VSOCKS Light is FREE. It has only basic functionality, but it should be
  10. sufficient for a small/medium sized LAN. VSOCKS Light supports UNLIMITED
  11. connections.

  13. We will not be adding more functionality to VSOCKS Light (but we will fix
  14. bugs). We are currently designing 'VSOCKS Pro' which has more features, but
  15. isn't free.

  17. Technical support for VSOCKS Light is NOT available, except to registered
  18. owners of the VPOP3 email server software
  19. (see http://www.pscs.co.uk/software/vpop3.html)

  26. VSOCKS Light supports the SOCKS V4 protocol and is also a DNS gateway (and
  27. basic DNS server).
  28. VSOCKS Light ONLY supports the 'CONNECT' command of SOCKS V4, NOT the 'BIND'
  29. command. This means that it works fine for all outgoing connections, but
  30. will not allow incoming connections.

  32. VSOCKS Light does NOT support HTTP proxies or any other protocol specific
  33. proxies. The SOCKS protocol supports proxying of any TCP/IP protocol
  34. (including HTTP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, NNTP etc etc), as long as the client
  35. software supports SOCKS, or you use a suitable 'SOCKSifying' agent, (see
  36. the VSOCKS help for more details)

  43. VSOCKS Light is NOT Public Domain, it is FREEWARE. This means that it
  44. belongs to us, but we grant you a free licence to use VSOCKS Light as a
  45. SOCKS firewall proxy. Any redistribution of VSOCKS Light must also
  46. contain this README.TXT file. VSOCKS.EXE and this README.TXT file must NOT
  47. be modified in any way.
